HAPPINESS
Happiness comes in hundreds of ways, For some it is rain, for some sunny days. Happiness is but a state of the mind; Present more often, when God’s peace we find. Happiness springs from a need that is met, From helping another and the joy that we get In knowing, we’re showing, the love of our Lord; In these acts of kindness, we gain our reward. It’s not found in things; we will find as we grow, But more in His love as our Saviour we know. And yet there are things that can cause us to smile, And cast off the cares of the world for a while. To a child it’s an ice-cream, or a bright shiny toy; To the longing, childless couple, a healthy girl or boy. To the one who is lonely, it’s a friend and a chat, Or a four-pawed companion, curled up on the mat. A warm bed for the homeless on a cold winter’s night, A haven of safety for those who take fright; Some food for the hungry, that’s given with care, An ear that will listen, as troubles we share. There are ‘things’ that are precious, and worth more than gold, And these become clear as His Word we unfold; The grace of forgiveness, for a soul stained with sin; And the love of a Saviour, who welcomes us in. We come into His kingdom of love, joy and peace, And when we are with Him our sorrows will cease, As we let Him work in us, and through us, we’ll find; That happiness comes from His peace in our mind. © 11/7/98
Happiness comes in hundreds of ways,
For some it is rain, for some sunny days.
Happiness is but a state of the mind;
Present more often, when God’s peace we find.
Happiness springs from a need that is met,
From helping another and the joy that we get
In knowing, we’re showing, the love of our Lord;
In these acts of kindness, we gain our reward.
It’s not found in things; we will find as we grow,
But more in His love as our Saviour we know.
And yet there are things that can cause us to smile,
And cast off the cares of the world for a while.
To a child it’s an ice-cream, or a bright shiny toy;
To the longing, childless couple, a healthy girl or boy.
To the one who is lonely, it’s a friend and a chat,
Or a four-pawed companion, curled up on the mat.
A warm bed for the homeless on a cold winter’s night,
A haven of safety for those who take fright;
Some food for the hungry, that’s given with care,
An ear that will listen, as troubles we share.
There are ‘things’ that are precious, and worth more than gold,
And these become clear as His Word we unfold;
The grace of forgiveness, for a soul stained with sin;
And the love of a Saviour, who welcomes us in.
We come into His kingdom of love, joy and peace,
And when we are with Him our sorrows will cease,
As we let Him work in us, and through us, we’ll find;
That happiness comes from His peace in our mind.
