A Godly Man
The boys spoke of their father, As the casket they stood before, An upright man, and honest, Could any child ask more? Of how upon the love he gave, He no conditions placed, Of how he would encourage them, No matter what they faced. Of the kindness, love and honour, He showed his whole life through, Not only to his family, But to any that he knew. A man in God’s own image, A man of God’s own heart, Who’d kept his trust in Jesus, As he had done from the start. And those who sat and listened, Though tears might trickle down, They knew without a single doubt, This saint now had his crown. Though whether he would wear it, Or place it at God’s feet, Is something that we will not know, Till we in heaven meet. But there’ll be many there that day, When the trumpet sounds its call, That if he had not showed the way, Would not be there at all. For God needs such men as fathers, True examples of His love, So all can see such ‘father-love’; Is a mirror, of our Father, above. © 6/7/07
