Man of Galilee
Jesus by the lake of Galilee, Skimming stones across the water, Close behind Him, His disciples, And the women He called daughter. Soaking in the early sunshine, Or in moonlight’s gentle glow, Man of teaching, now relaxing, Simply now, the Friend they know. So would Jesus draw us to Him, Call us friend, and bid us stay, If we’ll lead the life He sets us, We must rest along the way. We must take our times of comfort, Let our minds and souls go free, Jesus says such times will profit, "If your mind is stayed on Me." Even in our times of pleasure, We must have our Lord close by, Nothing that we choose to follow, Should offend His ear or eye. We are now His chosen vessel, We are now whom He calls friend, How can we in times of leisure, Take a path to Him offend. Holy God resides within us, Goes wherever we will go, Since He promised not to leave us, What we watch, to Him we show. Would He choose the film we’re watching? Would He read the books we do? Remember every thing you’re doing, Christ is doing it with you. Let His words be in our singing, And His thoughts be in our talk, Where we go, may we be happy, Knowing, close beside, He’ll walk. We have not a strict dictator, Gloating over every fall, For whatever wrongs we’re doing, Jesus once, has paid them all. He walks with us, ‘cos He loves us, Not that He, might us condemn. And if from His path we wander, He will guide us back again. But our eyes must be upon Him, As His followers of yore, Stepping in the Master’s footprints, Lest we wander from the shore. To His people He is calling, "Won’t you come and walk with Me, Come spend time upon the mountain, Come spend time beside the sea. Set aside some time of leisure, To have time alone with Me, Not for teaching or instruction, But as friends, to simply be. We can sit in peaceful silence, Or we’ll laugh and just have fun, I have always been your Saviour, Now a new thing has begun. When you realised I love you, And you asked Me to come in, That was when I quickly answered, And our friendship could begin." Jesus waits in every home-town, Every paddock, field or stream, In the desert, on the mountain, Hoping you’ll fulfil His dream. Every person that He died for, Each one for whom He shed His Blood, Will have heard His wondrous story, And His great unchanging love. Where you are is where He’ll meet you, What you are, He loves so much. He’s not asking that you change things, He will do that with His touch. Simply know that you are needy, Simply ask Him to come in, Don’t despair of what you’ve been through, He’s already paid all sin. You think that you’ve nought to give him, Simply give to Him your soul, All He’s asking, is, you’ll let Him, Have the chance to make you whole. His last prayer was for His people, In the ages yet to be, When on earth, He prayed this for you, "Father, give this one to Me". There is more that you can give Him, Than you’d think or even dare, Simply in your coming to Him, You can answer Christ’s last prayer. So come to Christ, ‘despite’ His people, Come despite the ‘shoulds’ and ‘oughts’, For though we all have many failings, You have been already bought. Jesus walks beside the water, Calling to whoe’er will come, "Won’t you come and walk beside Me, Won’t you let Me guide you Home?" © 11/6/03
