> GOD’S ARMY Booth’s drum beat strong on a London street, A bowl of soup and some bread to eat; And a call to follow the Spirit on, Oh where has the love, of the Spirit gone? No man’s approval was ever sought, And William’s Army could not be bought; He did whatever God wanted him to; Now who is it tells us what to do? The first thing he did was to reach to the poor, Not waited to see if of cash, he was sure; And God would supply his every need, No matter how many he had to feed. If we put God first in all we do, And to His Word, stay steadfast, true; If we let His Spirit lead the way, Then in His favour, we’ll surely stay. When we seek to manage our own affairs, And relegate God to over ‘there’; When we succumb to a world of greed, We harden the ground against His seed. We need to remember His way is best, And from soldier to general, we’ll all be blest; When His Spirit is first in every heart, Then truly, the Army’s, revival will start. God raised this army, and He wants it to grow, And it will, when we let His Spirit show, The way He showed Booth at the very start, How to seek, and follow, the Father’s heart. © 13/7/99 |
