Love and Truth
You say the truth will set me free; However can that be? For you may know about your God, But you do not know me. I killed a man in Vietnam, In fact I killed a few; And I know God cannot forgive, No matter what I do. I know I need the love of God, To fill this hole inside, But I cannot receive His love, Believe me, - how I’ve tried. The things I’ve seen, the things I’ve done, All in the name of war, Atrocities I took part in; I can’t forgive me for. How can this God you say is love, Forgive and care for me? Show me the verse, show me His love, It’s what I long to see. Convince this aching heart of mine, That there is any way, He will forgive what I cannot; I think that I must pay. I must atone for what I did, ‘An order’s" no excuse; You say that He’ll forgive such sin, Are you sure that that’s the truth? 24/4 In John’s first letter, near the back, Of God’s true Living word; Just read verse nine, of chapter one, Of His forgiveness, you’re assured. If of His love, you still feel doubt, Read John three, verse sixteen, It’s in this Gospel, full of love, In John’s letters; and the books in between. He loves you now, and He loved you then, While the terrible deeds were done; Man’s actions are no surprise to Him, They are why He first sent His Son. He knew that we would be led astray, Down the devil’s twisted road, And He knew that only His Son could bear, The weight of our gathered load. So give the weight of your sin to Him, Let Him carry the load He bought, For when He hung on the Cross that day, Yours was the face He sought. He sought your face, in that milling crowd, That He might smile on you, He longed to assure, and comfort you, That He knew the things you’d do. His heart cries out, with an aching need, That only you can meet, "Oh, claim Me now, as your own true Lord, ‘Ere you come to My Judgement Seat. Let Me pour My Spirit into your pain, Let Me heal, refresh and renew; For as much as you long to have faith in Me; Even more is My longing for you." © 24-29/4/05
