Away in a manger, the little ones sing, While grown-ups around them, Christmas bells ring; But angels in heaven, and people on earth, Combine in their praising our dear Saviour’s birth. The Child in the manger, is simple and sweet, But a hard life’s awaiting, those sacred, tiny feet; Like all of us humans, He must stumble and fall, But He’ll bear on His shoulders, the sins of us all. Though we joyously sing, of the day He was born, We must also remember, that cruel, Friday morn; When He suffered, and died, and went to the grave, And gave up His life, that our souls He would save. But our joy is renewed and we’re freed from all dread, For we know on the Sunday, He rose from the dead; With His resurrection, He gave all on earth, The right that through Him, we should have second birth. When we sing of His birth, Son of God, Son of man, We celebrate too, our new life that began, When we claimed Him as Saviour, invited Him in, And allowed Him to cleanse and forgive us our sin. The gift which He gave us, is greater than wealth, He gave us His love, and He gave us Himself; When we think of these things, it behoves us to pray; We thank You, our Father, for that first Christmas day. © 6/12/97
