Twenty-four hours in every day,
Plenty of time to work, rest and play;
But how will we use them, how will they be spent? This time that God gives us, these days we are lent?
Do we give Him a tithe, one tenth of ‘our’ time,
Or do we begrudge it, saying, “This day is mine,
I want to relax, play some sport, see a show;
At Christmas and Easter, to church I might go!’
Or maybe each Sunday, we go ‘pay our due’,
And give You a part of the day that’s ‘for You’,
And thus, duty done, we can ‘put You away’,
Forget all about You, till nextSabbathday.
You want us to know, when we open our eyes,
That You are there for us, ere ever we rise,
Before we arise, Lord even to pray,
You want us to thank You, as we greet each day.
To say, “Lord I’m here, and I’m willing to know,
Where You’d have me be, and where You’d have me go,
I know I’ve commitments and things I must do,
But I need to know how, in them, to serve You.
You want to be welcomed, each part of our day,
If we check with Your Spirit, He’ll help us not stray,
Would He choose this book that we’re looking to buy,
Or is it the sort that would make His heart cry?
And what of the film that ‘they’ all say to see,
Does it really promote my Lord’s best for me? And even if wholesome, is all that we do,
Are we really allowing enough time for You?
For You must be welcome, in all that we do,
But there must be times that are just spent with You,
In praising Your Name, and in reading Your Word,
And just meditating on what we have heard.
