FOR BILL
Two pieces of wood and three nails. Did they cost a lot? They did not! Two pieces of wood and three nails. What was their worth? More than the earth. Two pieces of wood and three nails. Was that all? Naught so small! Two pieces of wood and three nails. And the life of One Who is God’s Son. Two pieces of wood and three nails. What did it buy? You and I! Two pieces of wood and three nails. And a loving heart, Pledged from the start. Two pieces of wood and three nails. Simple it sounds, There grace abounds. Two pieces of wood and three nails. Whatever the creed, This Cross we need. Two pieces of wood and three nails. That we might win, The fight with sin. Two pieces of wood and three nails. It’s already been done, The fight has been won. Two pieces of wood and three nails. God’s gift of love, Sent from above Two pieces of wood and three nails. That we might be Forever free. Two pieces of wood and three nails. So much pain, So much gain. Two pieces of wood and three nails. Take hope from this sign, Of our Saviour divine. Two pieces of wood and three nails. Just a cross on a hill, Do we worship it still, Two pieces of wood and three nails? Not the cross, but the Man, In whom new life began. Two pieces of wood and three nails. Took His breath, Brought Him death, Two pieces of wood and three nails. That He might arise, And ascend the skies. Two pieces of wood and three nails. Were to no avail, Death did not prevail, Two pieces of wood and three nails. His life He gave, Our souls to save. Two pieces of wood and three nails. He arose, As God chose Two pieces of wood and three nails. And us the same, With His Spirit’s flame. Two pieces of wood and three nails. We can not explain, Why we should gain, But we give praise to Thee Through eternity; For two pieces of wood and three nails. © 18-19/1/97
Two pieces of wood and three nails.
Did they cost a lot?
They did not!
What was their worth?
More than the earth.
Was that all?
Naught so small!
And the life of One
Who is God’s Son.
What did it buy?
You and I!
And a loving heart,
Pledged from the start.
Simple it sounds,
There grace abounds.
Whatever the creed,
This Cross we need.
That we might win,
The fight with sin.
It’s already been done,
The fight has been won.
God’s gift of love,
Sent from above
That we might be
Forever free.
So much pain,
So much gain.
Take hope from this sign,
Of our Saviour divine.
Just a cross on a hill,
Do we worship it still,
Two pieces of wood and three nails?
Not the cross, but the Man,
In whom new life began.
Took His breath,
Brought Him death,
That He might arise,
And ascend the skies.
Were to no avail,
Death did not prevail,
His life He gave,
Our souls to save.
He arose,
As God chose
And us the same,
With His Spirit’s flame.
We can not explain,
Why we should gain,
But we give praise to Thee
Through eternity;
For two pieces of wood and three nails.
