The Scripture tells us we can call God, Abba, Father.
I heard a speaker talking of his visit to Israel & the Holy places, and what made the most impression upon him; and I remember well his reply. He said what impressed him most, was walking on the shore of Lake Gallillee one sunny afternoon, watching families play in the shallows of the water. As he watched, children frollicking with their fathers, he heard them shrieking out with glee, "Abba, Abba", much as we might hear them calling "Daddy, Daddy". He said this really brought home to him the relationship God was wanting with us when He gave us the right to call Him Abba. This poem explores that relationship through my eyes; ---I hope it blesses you.
> DADDY GODDaddy God, forgive me,The times I pull away,Keep Your arms wide open,When I from You do stray.Daddy God, recall me,Back to Your warm embrace,Remind me how the love shines outFrom Your adoring face.Daddy God, so child-like,I love to hide in Thee,For all my needs and longings,Are plain for You to see.
But You tell us You’re our refuge,Our tower safe and strong.
But to her Daddy turn? The safest place to live and grow,And all His ways to learn. We need to give You honour,The glory and the praise,To come in times of worship,And prayers of penance raise. But daddies don’t want servants,Who cower in abject fear,They want their loving childrenIn joy and love draw near. You love Your little children,Each one a precious gem,As we reflect Your beauty,We bring You more of them.Oh, Holy God, our Father,We thank You, that You’re You;You pour Your love upon us,In everything You do.But closer e’en than Father,What makes us all so glad,You bade us call You Abba,Not ‘Father", -- simply Dad!!
