By Your Feet

 

Lord, I want to be near You,

Want to sit at Your feet, and just be;

Lord, I know You are calling,

You want to spend time, just with me.

 

Why do I hurry and bustle?

Feel that I always must ‘do’?

When really my heart it is aching,

Just to draw closer to You.

 

All that You really are asking,

Calling Your people to see,

Is daily You urge all Your children,

"Come now, and tarry with Me."

 

Now is the world in a hurry,

Each day is filled with more haste,

Too easy for us to neglect You,

If we think we have no time to ‘waste’.

 

Open our eyes, to the truth, Lord;

‘Doing’s’ not always the way;

Firstly we need to sit by You,

If we want to know what You’ve to say.

 

Draw me again to Your feet, Lord;

Draw me again to Your side,

Let me look into Your eyes, Lord;

And see that You see me with pride.

 

Not for the things that I do, Lord;

Not for the things I achieve,

You simply want to be with me,

To love me and my fears relieve.

 

I must choose times to be with You,

Must set aside time to draw near,

Not run with the ways of the world, Lord,

With its haste and its worries and fear.

 

I will step into Your peace, Lord;

I will draw near to Your seat,

Will lay down my head on Your lap, Lord;

I choose to spend life, by Your feet.
