Deeply entwined around your heart,
Are roots that from a word did start,
A word that hurt and cut your soul,
These roots will stop you being whole.
Rejection is an ugly tree,
Entrapped by it, you can’t be free;
So you must bid these roots, "Get out",
Draw on your faith, and give a shout.
Or speak it quietly, but state,
Upon its will, you will not wait,
It is your mind, it is your heart,
And bitterness must now depart.
Pull out the roots, leave not a trace,
And let God fill the empty space
With love and truth, with life and light,
And trust in Him with all your might.
For we are called to speak His Word,
As if it’s all that we have heard;
To fill our mouths with pleasant things,
Until within us, our heart sings.
It sings with joy, and with the love,
Of God, our Father, high above;
He reigns above us, oh, so high,
And yet His Spirit’s always nigh.
And if we’ll let His Spirit lead,
We will escape rejection’s seed;
Our hearts from bitterness be free,
He’ll shine in us, for all to see.
