The young man ran to the Lord with joy, Saying, "Tell me, what I must do? Teach me the way that I must employ, If I would be like You." The Master gazed, with a look of love, A look that was tinged with pain, He said, "God gave Moses rules from above", And He listed them, once again. The young man knew he had kept this law Since he was very small. He said, "Lord, tell me, there must be more; I’ll give to You my all." The Lord was sad, for the youth had much, Of the riches of this day, "To follow Me, your love must be such, You can give all your wealth away." With a heavy heart, and head hung down, The seeker turned and went, But instead of a smile he wore a frown, Whenever his riches he spent. We say, "Lord, I offer my all, Whatever You want, Lord, I’ll give" But,… "I’ll hang onto this Lord, it’s small; And I’ll live, just how I want to live!" If we truly would be like our Lord, If we truly would honour our King, We would walk in the ways of His Word, And never withhold Him a thing. We would gladly surrender our all, Our money, our lives and our will, We would give him the big and the small, And with joy sing His praises out still. On our own this could never be done, On our own, we could never be free, But we’re washed in the Blood of the Son, And our strength comes from trusting in Thee. © 6-7/9/97
