Lord, the cage door is open, But I don’t know how to fly, My wings were clipped in days gone by, Now I’m afraid to try. You took these fears I carry, And wore them on Your back, You bore it all on Calvary, That I might know no lack. You bought me peace and freedom, And joy, within my heart, But You say that I must claim it, Must dare to make a start. You opened up the prison door, Before My life began, You said that I should look to You, Not be controlled by man. When I comply to ‘shoulds’ and ‘oughts’, And rules within my head, When I don’t walk in what You bought, It’s just like I am dead. I’m chained and trapped within a cage, By bonds that are not there, And I could walk right out and fly, If only I might dare. "Walk free, My child"; You call to me, "Just stretch your wings and try, If only you will trust in Me, You’ll find that you can fly. Fly in the strength of My Love, Straight to these arms that care, Just dare to let your life go, And in My Life you’ll share. I will not crush your spirit, I do not seek to blame, I washed you pure and spotless, When first you claimed My Name. You’ve been set free, My scared one, If only you could see, Stop gazing at the ground below, And lift your eyes to Me. Look past the laws and rulings, They’re there to hedge you in, They’re not there to condemn you, But keep you safe from sin. I do not look to lose you, For ways to keep you out, Each child that turns their heart to Me, Is welcomed with a shout. Though there are things that you can do, That please Me even more, There’s not a thing that you could do, Would cause Me close the door. You’ve been set free, My baby, To fly into My love, So come now, stop your doubting, Just trust your Lord above." © 10-13/4/04
