If love walked out – and no-one cared,

Would You be there?

If all our dreads and fears came true,

Would there be You?

If everywhere we placed our trust gave way,

Would You still stay?

If we’d no way of knowing what to do,

Could we trust You?

If all our doubts came clanging in our ear,

Would You still hear?

If heart and mind in turmoil cried,

Would You be by my side?

I step out in a year so full of fear,

I need You here.

It seems there’s no-one I can trust,

Yet You I must.

If fear is left to rule then I am lost,

You paid the cost.

If doubts can cause my faith to be denied,

Your sacrifice is then decried.

If circumstances tell me I am naught,

What have You bought?

If I am only what man sees today,

Why did You pay?

If life is only what we hear and see,

Then who sent Thee?

If there’s no hope, no reason left to try,

Then why’d You die?

I fear my doubts instead of doubt my fear,

Pray, draw You near

And override my frail humanity,

Draw me to Thee.

If I allow my mind to have it’s way

And from you stray,

If doubts prevail, I lose the claim,

To why you came.

If will can not be brought to line,

To blend with Thine,

If it would have me walk another way,

From You astray,

If feelings cause my heart to burn,

From You to turn,

If all emotions shrink from You,

Dear Lord – renew.

I need again to know Your loving touch,

You bore so much.

And yet for me You’d do it all again,

Forgive me Lord – Amen.
