Ours For a Moment
You came but for a moment, Unto this world of ours, You did not have great words to say, But you took us to the stars. You may have been a helpless babe With not a thing to give, But you smiled, and loved, and leaned on us, And taught us how to live. You needed us to care for you, To meet your daily need, To wash and change and exercise, And give you every feed. There wasn’t much that you could do, Or so it seemed to be; And yet the love flowed out from you, For all around to see. You touched the hearts of any, Who came into your sphere, And all who knew you, saw that love Touched those who dared draw near. Your little hands, your little face, Could fill our hearts with joy, For you really were a darling, Such a precious little boy. God lends us some such children, Just for a little while, To give a glimpse of Heaven, That is hidden in their smile. And though it hurts to let them go, He bids us not be sad, They’re safe and healed and held secure, In the arms of their Heavenly Dad. And we are left with memories, Of a love that seemed so fine, That deep within our hearts, we know, That love must be divine. Your birth brought love from Heaven, You shone it all around, Wherever you have travelled through, That love can now be found. And though your own will miss you, Oh, how their hearts will ache, You showed them how God strengthens them, And will not let them break. You came but for a moment, You were not meant to stay, But for your coming, there are those, Who thank God, when they pray. For though your life on earth was short, A blink and you were gone, A day is like a thousand years, To the Father and the Son. And none can count the souls you touched, Without a single word, Your innocence showed out God’s love, By the Spirit of the Lord. And we were proud to know you, To have you in our care, We thank God, and we praise Him, That He gave us; you to share. © 15/1/04
