Rescue Me

Teach me, Holy Spirit,

How to wait upon the Lord,

That I might mount on eagle’s wings,

And soar as David soared.

Give me a hunger, for Your Word;

A heart to understand,

Pour down Your rain upon my heart,

And water my dry land.

Renew the love that welled within,

When first Your love I knew,

Lift up my heart, and draw me, Lord,

More deeply into You. 14/3

Let my eyes, now downward cast,

Be lift unto Your hill,

Speak into my stormy mind,

And order it be still.

Pour Your love into my heart,

Reclaim it for Your own,

Awake within my soul, dear Lord,

The hope that once I’ve known.

For I am wand’ring helpless here,

And cannot see Your way,

I need Your Holy Spirit, Lord,

To help me when I pray.

I need His gentle leading, Lord,

His hand slipped into mine,

His loving re-assurance, Lord,

That, surely, I am Thine.

You say we’ve but to ask it, Lord,

And if Your will, it’s given,

And there is not a single one,

That You’d choose to miss heaven.

But Your’s was not an easy Way,

And I must work my part,

You started off a work in me,

When You moved into my heart.

And ours is not a passive role,

To leave all up to You,

For You have left us guidance:-

There’s things that we must do.

Like daily come before you, Lord,

And listen when we pray,

We have to take this time aside,

To hear what You would say.

To daily read Your Holy Word,

To draw upon its Life,

Your Word should be our daily feed,

A guide and shield from strife.

So, Lord, I s’pose I really know,

The things that I must do,

And now the first steps they must be,

That I draw close to you.

I’ll find that you are waiting, Lord,

With a Father’s open heart,

If I want to return to You,

The journey I must start.

I thank you, Lord, that You are there,

To always welcome me,

And that You’ll run with open arms,

When my return You see.

And You are never changing, Lord,

For all You’ll do the same,

You rescue every single soul,

That calls upon Your Name.

So we must spread the message, Lord,

That no-one need be lost,

It needs that we must follow You,

Like You, not count the cost.
