GOD’S PURCHASE

You paid the cost upon that tree,

You came to die, -- ‘for worthless me’;

How can my value, I decry,

Your estimation, dare deny.

You did not ‘throw’ Your life away,

You saw a cost, You chose to pay,

You paid the price to save my soul,

You valued me, and made me whole.

Though man discards the love he’s spent,

Rejecting those to him You’ve sent,

Your Lover’s heart will ne’er grow cold,

You love each one that You’ve been sold.

Yet though You paid that gruesome fee,

You do not fear to set us free;

You will not hold us to our debt,

It’s up to us, -- that choice we get.

We have the right to walk away,

To turn our backs on all You say;

To live our lives without a care,

Ignoring, blindly, that You’re there.

Or we can heed Your Lover’s call,

Whispered to each, -- but meant for all,

"Come to Me now, and know My love,

As gentle as the Spirit’s dove,

As strong as any lion’s roar,

Purer than any love before.

I long you love Me in return,

A fire, for Me, within you burn.

Not that you grieve the price I paid,

Nor dread the sacrifice I made;

Not giving Me just what is due,

But freely, gladly, giving you."

How can such love we just ignore,

Continue blindly as before,

When we have seen the Light of You,

It must affect all that we do.

When we Your love have felt or heard,

To live without it is absurd,

Would we ignore a human so,

Who took such lengths their love to show?

And yet the Lord of all the world,

Is often into one day hurled,

Kept in a box, for ‘now and then’,

When we might ‘take Him out again’.

Forgive us, Lord when we act thus,

Remind us Lord, that You made us,

As beings who would love to love;

The image of our God above.

Awake, oh Lord, that love within,

Renew, refresh, again begin

To grow that love You planted there,

Teach us, with You, that love to share.

Let us not always, busy be,

Too busy to spend time with Thee,

But learn to stop, and rest in You,

Take time to be and not just do.

Oh Lord, oh Love, oh Joy divine,

Amazing truth, Your love is mine,

And more amazing still, I see;

You crave the love that comes from me.

I’ll not let fear deny You this,

To draw me back, and let us miss

The beauty of this love we share;

Lord, draw me, keep me, with You there.

I choose You Lord, to be my own,

The truest love I’ve ever known,

I am the person that You see;

I give the gift You ask, Lord, -- me.
