Little boxes, row on row,
Where did all the families go? Off to forge a brand new life, With a brand new husband, or a brand new wife.
Left behind are Mum and Dad,
No longer needed, oh, how sad,
Left to spend their lonely days,
Living out their lonely ways.
Some perk up, and take the chance,
Inject their lives with fresh romance,
Find new things they both can do,
Find more ways, Lord, of serving You.
Some alone must face this chore,
Their partners now with them no more,
Often they were man and wife,
For the best part of their life.
Now they’re tossed aside to rot,
Those around, forget they’ve got :-
A life of wisdom, and thoughts to share,
But are there any who really care?
Years have gone, and charged their fee,
Frozen hip, or aching knee,
Hands that cannot always grip,
Causing things to fall or slip.
In the world, they’re pushed aside,
’Respect your elders’ now decried,
But is the church a different place?
Do Christians look, and see Your face?
It should be so, for You decree,
”Do for the least, as you’d do for Me”;
And Proverbs teach us, ‘Be aware,
That wisdom comes with eachgreyhair.
Respect your elders, give them grace,
And in your hearts, for them make place,
For they have worked their whole lives through,
Fought wars and battles, all for you.’
But, sadly, often, they’re pushed aside,
’Sorry, we’ve no time to give you a ride,
If you can get there, to see you, we’re glad,
But if you can’t make it, oh well, too bad.
Don’t come to us Sunday, and try to chat,
We’re much too important, and busy for that;
We know you’re alone, and lonely all week,
But we’re much too busy to take time to speak.
We’ve meetings to plan, and collections to do,
We can’t afford time, to just talk to you,
One day we might notice, you’re no longer there,
And stop for a moment to see if we care.
But all of us lead our own busy life,
Our minds fully cluttered with our own joy and strife,
There’s no room in our life for the one who’s alone,
We may not even notice, until thy are gone.
So who is shut in, and who is shut out?
For that’s what isolation, is really about,
Alone in a world that’s as full as can be,
Yet feeling there’s no one around except me.
God said at the start, man should not be alone,
He did not create us to live just as one,
We must reach to each other, and reach out with love,
A love that will flow from our Father above.
For He is not happy that any should stay,
Alone and despondent day after day,
And He bade us be both His hands and His feet,
And to pass on His love to all whom we meet.
He says we should all be a link in His chain,
Binding together till He comes again,
As He reaches toward us, we will rise in accord,
All bound and united in His love and His Word.
So reach out today to someone alone,
If you look around, you’ll find that you’ve known,
Someone that is lonely, alone or just sad,
As you reach to cheer them, you’ll find your heart glad.
You’ll fill with God’s Spirit, His peace and His joy,
This task can be done, by man, woman, girl, boy,
It’s simply give love to all those who are near,
A smile, or a hug, or a word of good cheer.
The devil will fail, and the Lord be held high,
A smile and a laugh will replace a sad cry,
God’s love will have triumphed, if you just do your part,
Stop being so busy, and let Love rule your heart.
