THE SHEPHERD
My Shepherd is the Lord, His arms reach out to me; My soul a frightened, trembling, lamb Must dare to come to Thee. You will not scold nor chasten, The lamb who limps along; You will not rush, nor hasten, Until Your lamb is strong. Upon Your shoulders broad and strong, You lift me high above The bleating, butting, thoughtless throng; Into Your tender love. Though earthly shepherds stumble, Or leave their flocks to stray, There is but one Good Shepherd, Who shows; and is, The Way. His sheep must know His voice, His little lambs the same, And look to Him to guide their choice When they ask aught in His name. For He will tend and nurture, Each lamb within His care; And charge that in the future, They’ll each bring others there. No straying sheep’s too battered, No little lamb too lorn, To Him each person mattered, Long time before t’were born. Our Shepherd guides this weary flock, And bids us follow close; That we may not be a stumbling block, For those that need Him most. And each one has the greatest need, At some time or another; That’s why He calls us all to feed A hungry sister; brother. Each sheep must like the Shepherd be, To nurture, guide and love; Till all the world shall Jesus see, And through Him, see His Father above. Oh Holy Spirit, help me grow, And answer my Shepherd's call; Give me the words and help me show, His love to one and all. © 5/9/99
My Shepherd is the Lord,
His arms reach out to me;
My soul a frightened, trembling, lamb
Must dare to come to Thee.
You will not scold nor chasten,
The lamb who limps along;
You will not rush, nor hasten,
Until Your lamb is strong.
Upon Your shoulders broad and strong,
You lift me high above
The bleating, butting, thoughtless throng;
Into Your tender love.
Though earthly shepherds stumble,
Or leave their flocks to stray,
There is but one Good Shepherd,
Who shows; and is, The Way.
His sheep must know His voice,
His little lambs the same,
And look to Him to guide their choice
When they ask aught in His name.
For He will tend and nurture,
Each lamb within His care;
And charge that in the future,
They’ll each bring others there.
No straying sheep’s too battered,
No little lamb too lorn,
To Him each person mattered,
Long time before t’were born.
Our Shepherd guides this weary flock,
And bids us follow close;
That we may not be a stumbling block,
For those that need Him most.
And each one has the greatest need,
At some time or another;
That’s why He calls us all to feed
A hungry sister; brother.
Each sheep must like the Shepherd be,
To nurture, guide and love;
Till all the world shall Jesus see,
And through Him, see His Father above.
Oh Holy Spirit, help me grow,
And answer my Shepherd's call;
Give me the words and help me show,
His love to one and all.
