I stood before You at the gates of eternity,

"Do you love Me?", You asked.

I bowed my head and curled into myself;

I could not answer You.

You lifted my head and gazed into my eyes;

You saw timidity and fear.

You did not stop, but looked deeper into my soul;

You saw shame and humiliation.

Still the Lord of love looked on and in,

Deeper into my spirit,

You saw a yearning, a longing to reach out to You,

You entered in.

I stood before You, and asked You for Your Spirit’s touch,

"Do you love Me?" You asked,

My answer was whispered, hesitant, unsure;

But it was there, "Yes, Sir".

You touched me with Your Spirit,

The merest breath,

And, oh, the overwhelming joy that flooded through my being;

You accepted me.

I came to You and asked You for Your gift of tongues,

"Do you love Me?" You asked,

"Yes Lord, I do. I think that’s why I ask,"

You gave Your gift to me.

You look into my eyes each time You ask,

"Do you love Me",

Each time; You take the best of what You see,

And nurture it in You.

Yet still You long for more,

For closer union,

You, the God of all the universe,

Would be as one with me.

You came and touched my heart, my soul, my spirit,

You brushed my cheek so gently with Your hand,

The warmth of You was in my every atom,

A love I cannot start to understand.

You gazed into my eyes with such a longing,

"Do you love Me?" You whispered in my ear,

And everything within me, now responded;

"I love You, oh I love You, Christ, my dear".
