Stretching

Love ever faithful,

Love ever true,

How would I live,

My Lord, without You?

Love that will toughen

And help me be strong,

Love that will never,

Just push me along.

God’s love is tough,

But it’s never unfair,

When He seems to withhold it,

He’s showing His care.

If His love is too easy,

And always in reach;

Then how will God ever

Our growing us teach?

He takes a step backwards –

I panic and fret.

Why don’t I know better?

Don’t I trust Him yet?

And yet deep inside me

I know He’s not gone,

In His word He has promised;

He’ll not leave me alone.

I must learn on His promise

To stand sure and firm,

And know He’ll uphold me

With His righteous right arm.

Just knowing His love,

Will carry me through

The times when my feelings

Deceive with untruth.

But the times when I feel

His Presence so near,

Are the times that will cause me

To shout and to cheer.

For nothing’s so precious

As knowing His love,

And feeling the nearness

Of my Saviour above.

When His Holy Spirit

Is close to my heart,

The joy that He brings

Is a whole world apart.

Though feelings can often,

Lead us astray;

Remembering those feelings

Can cause us to stay.

To stay on this path

He has planned for our way,

Until we behold Him

That glorious day

When feelings and knowledge

Shall all become one,

When we see and we worship

God’s risen Son !
