Child of the past, why do you hide, Hoarding the pains of yesterday? Keeping them, saving them, deep inside, Eating the heart of your soul away. Child of the past, why do you run, Turning your head from the light? Why should you try to outrun the Son? Why from His love take flight? Child of the past, what do you fear, When you hide from His all seeing eye? Why won’t you let your Saviour draw near? Why away from His hand do you shy? Child of the past, it’s time to grow, Leaving the past where it lies; Place your hand in the hand, of the One you know, Turn your head and look into His eyes, Child of the present, be born anew, Learn that it’s safe, to be. Know that I’m happy for you, to be you, And that you can trust in Me. Child of the present, learn to be still, Listen and hear My voice; This is the way, to stay in My will; The freedom, in your free choice. Child of the present, dare to be bold, To know that the battle is won; Jesus has opened the gate to the fold, The defeating of satan is done. Child of the future, where is your hope? Centred on Jesus your Lord! Through Him, and in Him, you’ll do more than cope, You look to your King’s great reward. Child of the future, who is your joy, Who is your life and your light? Forever, you look, to His presence enjoy, When your faith then will finish in sight. Child who was lost, and then found, and then won, Let go of your fears and your woe. Place all of your hope and your trust in the Son; And let Him His love for you show. © 26-29/5/97
