To lay My life, for yours, upon the Cross;
I came to suffer doubt and fear and torture,
To freely shed My blood, not count the cost.
I broke the bread and shared it with My people,
I took the cup, and passed the wine around,
I asked that you would do this in My memory,
When I appeared entombed within the ground.
You watched them nail My body, torn and shattered,
And raise that Cross of shame against the sky,
You could not know ten thousand years before you,
This scene had caused My Father God to cry.
He knew before He started His creation,
That man would use free will to fall away,
And in His mind, He planned for man’s salvation,
My sacrifice could be the only way.
For blood alone, poured out, would not redeem you,
Though you might slay a thousand beasts or more,
It took My love for each and every person,
Mixed with My blood, salvation to ensure.
For only love can conquer sin and sickness,
Can cut through dark depression like a knife,
And as My blood poured, with it flowed My loving,
Refreshing, cleansing; bringing you new life.
My love was stronger than the cross and crucifixion,
It broke the chains of hell and set Me free,
And as I took the keys to satan’s kingdom,
I snapped the locks for all who’d follow Me.
I did not stay within the tomb you placed Me,
I rose and showed Myself to all around,
So many saw the newly risen Saviour,
The One they’d seen entombed within the ground.
So now I say to all of My disciples,
If you would say that you will follow Me,
Remember that I laid My life down for you,
And show My love to any whom you see.
Remember when you join to share Communion,
Or when you draw aside, alone, to pray,
Remember in your normal daily living,
My Spirit travels with you every day.
