FEAR OF FAILURE

Fear of failure, clouds my every try,

Why am I afraid to live; afraid to die?

Fear that I will lose Your love, -- lose You,

Affects the things I think, or say, or do.

You have shown Your love to me before,

And yet, so often, Lord, I find I ask for more;

Why can’t I let Your love for me, complete,

The work You did, when I came to Your feet?

You want to lift me up upon Your knee,

You want, the look upon Your face, I’d see,

Yet still, I grovel ‘humbly’ on the ground,

Afraid to grasp the grace, in You, I’ve found.

How can the fear of man I’ve always known,

Still override the love to me You’ve shown?

If Your love is much greater than my foe,

Why can’t I trust this love I ought to know?

Why must I hide each time You pass me by,

And think that You don’t care at how I cry?

I know I cannot make You love me more,

Yet that Your love is mine; I’m oft not sure.

Each time I doubt, I cause the gap to grow,

And fear o’er shadows any love You show,

I dare not run, and yet I fear to stay,

The fears within my mind, affect my strength to pray. 12/3

Yet patiently You stand and wait close by,

Of Your love, to convince me, You don’t try,

But when I dare to look, to see’f You care,

I’m overwhelmed by Love that’s waiting there.

I don’t know, Lord, how Your love to receive,

I’m scared, Your Holy Spirit, I will grieve;

And yet, for all His quiet, gentle ways,

Through all my childish turmoil, He still stays. 13/3

And waits His opportunity to grasp,

To give the love my spirit dare not ask,

For never will He leave me all alone,

He said, and meant it; -- I am now His own. 14/3
