You loved me before the world began,
I did not know it.
Satan told me You would never love me,
I believed his lies.
You accepted me before I entered this world,
I longed for Your acceptance.
Satan told me, none but he would care,
I swallowed his deceit.
Lie upon lie he fed me,
I starve upon his food;
Pining for a meal I had not tasted,
Yet, deep within me, knew was good.
"Taste and see that the Lord is good";
The psalmist knew Your love,
"His love endures forever" :--
Forever forward, but forever back in time.
There never was a time You did not love,
Your love envelopes me;
There never was a time You did not meet my need,
But I had eyes, that could not, Your love see.
You touch Your child and open wide these eyes,
You stretch Your hand to heal the aching heart;
You gently knock and take the crack that opens,
And stretch it till the walls are torn in two.
You will not force for those who still reject You,
Whose hearts are seared against Your loving touch;
But while there is a chink in their resistance,
You will not cease from pouring in Your love.
This is a world of sorrow, pain and sadness,
Of heartache, lonliness and woe;
Yet in Your love there’s hope and joy and gladness,
You gave Your Word, the Bible tells us so.
The greatest day was when I saw You loved me,
Invited You to be my Lord and King,
It didn’t change Your love or your acceptance,
They’ll always be, just as they’ve always been.
But when my pain to You I could surrender,
When I could let Your goodness in my life,
You made of me, in Christ, a new creation,
And filled me with the Spirit of my Lord.
